I made this hat for my daughter, she's 4 now. I know there are tons of patterns out there on how to make a crochet beanie, you can always go to the one that you feel more comfortable using!, I've created this pattern because I'm always thinking about my daughter telling me, " It is too big, it's too tight, it itches..." That is exactly why I started using cotton instead of wool or acrylic, because she would have a hard time wearing anything but cotton.Anyway, you can also use the yarn of your choice and hooks similar to the ones I'm using, if you can't find  the same sizes.

Big and Small crochet flower pattern

A friend of mine asked me to make some flowers to decorate her bath rug set, which she thought looked too simple. I thought sharing a flower pattern would be useful to some of you.

 For this project I'm using:

 A size B/1 - 2.25mm hook.
100% mercerized cotton yarn. Worsted weight.
A pair of scissors.

sl st= slip stitch
ch = chain
tr = treble (triple) crochet
 beg = beginning
dc = double crochet

Begin with a magic circle.
Sl st ch 1(pic 1). Work 3 tr. Ch 2 sl st into the loop (pic 2).
Ch 1 work 3 tr. Ch 2 sl st into the loop(pic 3).

Repeat until you complete 5 petals (pic 4).
Sl st into the loop. Fasten off(pic 5).
Now the flower is complete!!!(pic 6).

In case you wanted to use double crochet(dc) instead of triple crochet (tr) this is how it would look after finishing.
I like bigger petals, that is why I'm using tr instead of using dc to form the petals, though this could also be another option.

Big  5 layer crochet flower

More than 3 years ago my mother surprised me with a gift she got for me in Mexico. Some beautiful crochet flower pins for my daughter. I fell in love with these cuties right away. Anyway I started searching all over the web for patterns, I spent months and months trying to figure out how to make them, but no such luck.There were so many patterns out there, I found some similar,but nothing that looked quite like the ones I had. These flowers introduced me to the world of crochet. I mixed patterns, did a lot of research, when everything I really needed was right before my eyes, the same flower pins my mother gave me!. I studied them a thousand times, until one day, after so long, I got it right. I was so happy!!!.

Begin with a magic circle
Sl st ch 1. Work 3 dc. Ch 2 sl st into the loop (pic 1).
Ch 1 work 3 dc. Ch 2 sl st into the loop(pic 2).
Repeat until you complete 5 petals. Sl st into the loop. (pic 3).

Now this is the fun part...
*Insert the hook into the back right where the 1st and 2nd petals meet (pic 4).
Yarn over  pull it through all 3 loops. Yarn over pull it through.*
Chain 2.Insert the hook into the back where 2nd and 3rd petals meet. Yarn over  pull it through all 3. Yarn over pull it through.
Repeat to form 5 loops in the ring. Sl st into Ch1 at the beg of the round(pic 5).
In each loop, ch 1 work 4 dc . Ch 2 sl st into the loop  (pic  6 ) .
Ch 3 after finishing the 2nd layer (pic 7).
Repeat *(pic 8).Repeat to form 5 loops in the ring .

Now in each loop, ch 1 work 5 dc . Ch 2 sl st into the loop.
Repeat to complete the 3rd layer of the flower (pic 9).
Ch 4 repeat *(pic 10).Repeat to form 5 loops in the ring (pic 11).
In each loop, ch 1 work 8 dc. Ch 2 sl st into the loop. Repeat to complete the 4th layer of petals(pic 12).

Ch 5 repeat *.Repeat to form 5 loops in the ring (pic 13).
In each loop, ch 1 work 11 dc. Ch 2 sl st into the loop. Repeat to complete the 5th layer of petals(pic 14).
I usually do Ch 2 before I fasten off(pic 15).
Voila!!! Big 5 layer crochet flower complete!!!.

Now let's finish our project, I'm using some pearls, some circles( made out of felt )according to the size and color of each flower,  a glue gun and some glue sticks.

Alright, after you've pasted all the circles on the back of each flower, you can add the beads to the centers.
I had some shell buttons laying around and I decided to show you how this could also be a nice looking option.  This is how it would look after you're done. Check out both options.

Finally!!, I hope my friend like these.

Front post and Back post half double crochet for hats

This is an example of how you would begin a crochet hat made with front post and back post half double crochet.
For this example I'm using a size G 6/ 4.00mm hook and 100% mercerized cotton yarn(pic 1).

ch = chain
sl st = slip stitch
hdc= half double crochet
beg= beginning

Ch 20 Join with a sl st to form ring(pic2).
Round 1 Ch 1 , work 20 hdc in ring (pic 3), sl st to join to the ch 1 worked at the beg of the round(pic 4).

Round 2 Yarn over, insert hook from back to front around next hdc. Yarn over, pull it through all 3 loops (pic 5). Yarn over, insert hook from front to back around next hdc. Yarn over, pull it through all 3 loops (pic 6). Repeat until round 2 is complete. Now this is how it would look after you're done (pic 7).

Want to know how it would look when repeating only back post hdc? Check out pic 8 and 9. For front post hdc, picture 10 and 11.

K&T art

K&T art was created by me  in November 2012,Why? Well I've been a crocheter and crafter for quite some time now and I realized I had so much to share with people like me out there searching for simple,cute and fun ideas for patterns and crafts, to make our little ones smile. I'm a simple woman, with a simple mind yet I could spent hours creating, doing, undoing, writing, rewriting patterns, projects and music, of course, which is my number one passion. When I do something I won't stop until the final product gets closer to what I think  perfect would be, sometimes when things don't come out right I get really tired, I get mad, frustrated and what I usually do is to take a break, let go and continue later, otherwise I'll eventually end up  undoing entire projects. I'm a little bit of a perfectionist and I'm still debating whether that's useful or not.
Lulu
Lulu is K&T art's mascot.
My daughter asked me to make her a bear hat, I told her: " You're not just getting a bear hat, you're getting a panda bear hat." She was so happy about it! Anyway the panda bear hat became popular around the family and with our friends; so I decided to make her join our team and named her Lulu, my 4 year old agreed with me.

Sharing
I will share everything I can the same way I like to learn which is via uploaded videos, writing small patterns,  synthesizing patterns, uploading pictures, etc.
The patterns are not intended for beginners but I'm always willing to answer any questions I can. I recently had to learn how to write patterns because some of my friends and followers requested I do it. I learned how to crochet by watching videos on you tube so I never had to read anything, besides every time I read one I just got really confused, I prefer watching videos and simplifying more complex patterns.
